The outer neighborhoods in the NYC boroughs are littered with 99¢ stores. That, and mani-pedi salons and something that resembles deli’s or grocery stores.
I live in Astoria, NY (Queens) and go to the 99¢ stores to save .20 – .60¢ per item on toiletry and discounted Rubbermaid® and Tupperware®. A personal favorite are the Pyrex® products. These name brands—so discounted—are a modern, scientific and cultural miracle. 🙂
While there, I came across some well-drawn, Rockwell–esque holiday cards that were apparently rejects from yesteryear. At $1.49 for a box of 14, I dove in and took the risk.
Four hours later and after writing a hundred a thirty-eight headlines that would be non-denominational, currently/culturally relevant, compelling and enlightening, this is what I came up with:
